Help needed!

There were a couple of important notices at yesterday's service that I thought were worth re-publishing - especially since not everyone was there yesterday.
Firstly, we have been discussing for many months the idea of appointing a part-time christian worker to work for Emmanuel in the Clermiston area. The role would be some sort of combination of a family worker, youth worker, community worker, and outreach missionary. (I know we need to firm up on the job description before getting much further with this!) One of the challenges we have always grappled with to date has been the costs involved. However, the diocese is offering a Mission Development grant of up to £5,000 per local mission project, and, so far as we can tell right now, our idea of having a local christian worker would probably meet the grant criteria. The grant comes from the St Hilda's Fund. I'm not quite sure where St Hilda appears in the scriptures, but I guess we shouldn't ask too many questions!
The submission date for grant applications is 30 September 2012, and there are two information meetings held this month which representatives from interested congregations can attend to find out more about what is involved. The meetings are:
Sat 26 May, 10-12 noon at 21a Grosvenor Crescent, and
Tuesday 22 May, 7pm-9pm in Melrose
Ideally two people from Emmanuel should attend one of these meetings so that we stand the best chance of being successful with the grant application. SO WE NEED A COUPLE OF VOLUNTEERS to attend one of these meetings. If you are able to attend, please let me know asap.
Secondly, the Scottish SU has been in touch to ask for help at this years Holiday Club. It will be 6-10 August, from 10am to 12.15 at St Andrews Parish Church. The theme is the Olympics and, as previously, any help (whether it is for the entire week or only part of it) is very much appreciated. This is a really important outreach activity and, as we all know, does a fantastic job of presenting the gospel to children who may never have heard it before, and may not hear it again for many years to come. If you feel able to help in any way with this, please let me know asap. We do need to let the SU know in the next week or so how much support we can offer this year.
That's it. Sorry for this long-ish note, but both of these issues are a high priority for us so please give them your prayerful consideration, and let me know if you feel you are able to help in any way.
Thanks
Chris
