"I have been so blessed by Emmanuel and I genuinely believe it was God’s will that I should become involved with it"

Dear Emmanuel Church fellowship,

This is just a written affirmation of what I said on my last Sunday. Since the first time Ben Driver told me he went to a church called Emmanuel after choir one day, I was fascinated by this little fellowship!

Emmanuel offers freely a sanctuary of Christian fellowship, an experience of true worship and a Spiritual home. Even before I started coming to the church, I was encouraged through knowing that, nearby, there was a group of people so committed to Christ. In coming to Emmanuel, my expectations were more than reached as I attended the home groups, prayer meetings, services, and became involved in leading the various youth activities. I had the tremendous privilege of working with dozens of wonderful children and young people through these activities and sharing with them my love for Jesus and Jesus’ love for them (not always using words, but words are only a small part of Jesus love). There is nothing I enjoy doing more and I found every moment totally inspiring. The passion and enthusiasm of every member of this church is truly humbling to see.

I have been so blessed by Emmanuel and I genuinely believe it was God’s will that I should become involved with it. He has shown this in many ways:
- I took over the position of pianist for the Fox Covert choir from Willie Nixon and I am told many people had been praying that it the new pianist would be a Christian.
- I had always wanted to help with the Jaffa club but, when Willie left, he asked me specifically if I would help.
- Monday night was the only night I had free for a long time and I wanted to use it to do some more challenging youth work: it turned out Baseline Xtra was on a Monday...
- Shirley Jeffery was looking for a student when I was looking for accommodation!
- At my final weekend SU camp for Edinburgh primary school children, I was Ben Driver’s leader! To me, God just seemed to be saying “I was in this from the beginning, and I saw it through to the end!”

I have only been in Edinburgh for 2 years but, I must admit, leaving it is the hardest thing I have ever done. It is the first place I have ever felt needed and accepted and God has abundantly blessed every day. Leaving it feels like leaving my home and family all over again, only worse because many of the people I am leaving need me just as much as I need them. I know Emmanuel is a fellowship after God's own heart. It is filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control and these, after all, are gifts from the very Spirit of God.

Emmanuel, God is with us! No matter what the future holds, God is with us.

Yours in Christ,

Matthew Todd.
